Sides A & B. Bees–killed by insecticides

20 Jan

George wanted to send this note to the Backward Beekeepers, but since he isn’t on Facebook, we can’t quite figure out how to get that message to them. Perhaps by this link?
Here’s his message:
The British newspaper The Guardian reports this week that the European Food Safety Authority has determined that neionicotinoid pesticides, particularly when used on canola, corn, or sunflower crops, are the cause of honeybee decline. Of the three pesticides identified, Beyer’s imidacloprid and Syngenta’s thiamethoxam received special mention. This class of pesticides is already banned in France, German, Italy and Slovenia. Beyer’s comment on the study was largely devoted to the expense a ban on their chemical in the UK might incur.
